About The Episode
This week’s episode will be looking a bit more to how technology is impacting the creative side of things. I’ve talked a little bit about creativity and art and how AI and other technologies are impacting this in previous episodes, but it is something quite interesting for myself as I find myself definitely more of an analytical personality rather than a creative type.
About The Guest
My guest this week is Pietro Gagliano. He is a multi-award-winning creative, exploring what it means to transcend humanity in a post-singularity world. He is particularly interested in the power of art, creativity and storytelling, as we navigate the fast-approaching implications of super-intelligent machines. He co-founded a Digital Agency (Studio Secret Location in 2008) where he lead talented teams in creating groundbreaking work in the interactive-storytelling space leading to numerous awards, including: 2 Emmy Awards, 2 Webby Awards, a Cannes Lion, and 10 Canadian Screen Awards. Pietro is also the founder of Transitional Forms, a studio-lab developing new forms of entertainment content through creative machine intelligence. Further exploring the intersection of storytelling and technology. And this leads us to the main topic of this week’s episode, the Dynamic film Agence.
Agence allows you to interact with 5 small 3 legged AI agents that are ‘living’ on a small moving planet. In fact the planet moves according to basic weight adjustments forcing the AI agents to constantly balance so as to not fall off the planet into the void…which happens often as they interact, bump into each other, and even lash out at times. You can pick up and move the agents so as to help them survive and avoid fights, but also place a seed on the planet that grows into a flower, and eventually into a large tree if the conditions are right which leads to various endings in the story of the agents. The entire experience lasts some 5-10 minutes but can be repeated which leads to completely different outcomes, as your interactions and those of the agents are never the same twice.
